Charitable foundation – Valais, Switzerland
The Fondation Beloved provides short, medium and long-term financial support to those directly affected by the fire in Crans-Montana on 1 January 2026.
Set up by the Canton of Valais following the fire in Crans-Montana, Switzerland on 1 January 2026, the Fondation Beloved’s mission is to provide financial support to the dependants of those who died, those who were injured, their relatives who were directly affected and the emergency services personnel involved in managing the fire and caring for the victims, regardless of where they live.
The tragedy on that day prompted a huge outpouring of solidarity. Many individuals, organisations and local authorities expressed their willingness to provide practical support in order to minimise the financial impact on the victims and their families as far as possible.
The Fondation Beloved was set up to provide a framework for this urge to help. It ensures that the contributions received are managed independently and rigorously. The Canton of Valais provided initial capital of 1 million francs to cover the Foundation's operating costs. Its other assets consist of donations from public bodies, private individuals and other institutions.
In spring 2026, pledges totalled around 24 million francs, comprising 10 million francs from the Canton of Valais, 7 million francs from the Canton of Vaud, 1 million francs from the Municipality of Crans-Montana and 6 million francs from organisations and private donors.
Guaranteed freedom of choice for beneficiaries.
Ensuring that contributions are distributed fairly.
Rigorous reporting.
A sincere and deep love for these young people and those whose lives have been turned upside down, in keeping with the name of our foundation, Beloved.
Through its work, the Fondation Beloved aims to meet – on either a temporary or permanent basis – a proven and urgent need to cover costs that are not covered by other organisations, or not covered quickly enough.
With this in mind, its approach is designed to be targeted, non-bureaucratic, responsive and coordinated with existing schemes. In each case, the Foundation endeavours to provide a useful and relevant response, taking into account the unique nature of each situation.
It can also support initiatives to preserve memory, as well as projects relating to the tragedy, led by or for the beneficiaries.
The foundation operates independently and ensures that contributions are distributed fairly, in accordance with its objectives (see the Articles of Association, Organisational Regulations and Regulations on the Allocation of Grants). It retains full discretion and decision-making power in selecting its beneficiaries at all times.
